Land Dive Team: Environment RVA was the first of a two-part public program for “Artist’s Choice: Hope Ginsburg” at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Richmond, Virginia. Free and open to the public, participants began with a meditation training in the galleries (where Land Dive Team: Bay of Fundy was on view in the "Declaration" exhibition) and then moved onto a green roof to complete their “Land Diver” certifications by meditating with scuba gear on site. The event was designed after many prior Land Dive Team events to give participants new awareness of the environment by practicing attention to the breath, the body and the specific context of the dive. Each participant receives a certification card in the mail, joining a growing Land Dive Team of approximately 150 members, certified over thirteen dives, taking place internationally since 2014.

Become a certified Land Diver during part one of Hope Ginsburg’s Artist’s Choice event Land Dive Team: Environment RVA at the ICA. Each session is open to 10 participants who, following a dive brief, will develop new awareness of Richmond’s environment by practicing attention to the breath, the body, and the site. Part two is an evening convening of environmental justice organizations that provides the opportunity to explore further Involvement.
These dives will take place entirely on land! You will not get the least bit wet. Land Divers receive guided meditation instruction, an introduction to scuba gear, and undertake two group meditations while breathing from a diving cylinder through a scuba regulator. Following the Environment RVA training dives, participants receive a certification card in the mail, joining a growing Land Dive Team of approximately 135 members, certified over twelve dives, taking place internationally since 2014.
Special thanks to Johanna Plummer and Caroline Legros of the ICA and Jim McNeal of The Dive Shop Richmond.
