Solvent Space, Richmond, Virginia. January 25th-February 23rd, 2008.
spongespace was an immersive environment designed to host three participatory Sponge events: Feltmaking, Water & Sound, and Meta-Sponge. Each of the three events lasted for two days and was free and open to the public.
The spongespace galleries included two large wall paintings designed by Leah Beeferman, a soundscape designed by Stephen Vitiello with contributions by Ann Kroeber and Brian Bingham, and a slideshow of an Indonesian reef at low tide by Dana Sherwood. spongespace also housed a fully functioning felt-making studio, two lecture/presentation areas, artifacts from past Sponge workshops, and objects from artworks that foreshadowed the project.
